Each course is for two hours a week for 8 weeks via Zoom
No rushing to get anywhere, all you need to do is to follow the Zoom link in the email sent to you, make yourself comfortable, maybe grab yourself a drink, a heat pack, you can even wear your fluffy slippers and PJ’s if you want to!
Is this course right for you?
Jude has some important questions to help you decide:
Whilst you will learn about dealing with chronic pain in this course, you don't have to have chronic pain to benefit from this course.
If you answered yes to these questions, then this is the course for you.
Have you heard the term ‘Knowledge is Power’?
One of the pillars in mindfulness practice, is having a ‘beginners’ mind’, being curious and open to new experiences and new knowledge. As you go through this course, each and every week you will be building a whole bank of knowledge, skills, and practices.
What this course covers
The research
The Complete Power Over Chronic Pain Course draws on the learnings of mindfulness and is based on Professor Emeritus, Jon Kabat-Zinn, from the University of Massachusetts, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program (MBSR), and is combined with a focus on self-compassion and living the best life you can. This is teamed up with evidence-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy that provides a structure to use mindfulness and acceptance to make positive changes in your life.
There is substantial evidence that mindfulness training is beneficial for people struggling with chronic pain and health conditions, fatigue, stress, depression and anxiety.
Research has found that mindfulness training can help people to relax and be less stressed. After learning mindfulness, people report lower levels of pain intensity, depression and anxiety, and an increased ability to cope with stressful situations and greater engagement with valued activities.
What will happen in this Course?
The course will consist of eight two-hour sessions with Jude, via Zoom. Each week you will receive an email with links to download course notes (that make up a comprehensive manual) and audio guided meditations (so you can keep practising!).
Jude will explain the concepts of mindfulness and how to promote a mindful approach to life, as well as how to manage unpleasant events such as pain and challenging life events. She brings all the strategies and concepts to life as she shares her own experiences of living with chronic pain.
There will be lots of guided practice in mindful meditation, such as meditating on the breath, the body, emotions, and even pain (sounds strange to focus on pain but it actually helps!).
You will also learn how to practice ‘everyday mindfulness’ where you are fully engaged with whatever is happening in the present moment (Pure bliss getting out of your head!).
There will be group discussion around developing your mindfulness practice, however, no one is required to share if they prefer not to. Home practice will be encouraged as an essential part of learning these skills so that they can help you day to day. The truth is, if you don't practise these strategies, they aren't going to help you! Don't worry, Jude will show you how to integrate these into your life.
Who will be running the course?
The course is presented by Jude King, the founder of Catch The Calm, she is an experienced mindfulness teacher, pain educator, clinical counsellor, clinical hypnotherapist and coach. Jude has a lived experience of chronic pain and other chronic health issues and credits her mindfulness practice as one of the main reasons that she is living the life she wants too.
Feedback from previous participants and organisations
“Easy to understand and explanations were clear and concise. Examples were very good, and humour was thrown in where appropriate. Thanks Jude, great to have a presenter that totally relates to our issues, having gone down that long windy injury path” MJ
“I liked everything about the course, the theory, the practice, the homework, the presenter’s calm, gentle and soothing style, the ‘community’ that developed amongst the participants” – TM
“I liked the group atmosphere, along with the balance of theory and practical exercises. Jude was a knowledgeable and effective presenter, who took the time to go through each step in mindfulness” – Emma
Build a Better Me (Arthritis, Pain Support and ME/CFS ACT) engaged Jude King to present the Mindfulness Course to small (approximately 20 at a time) groups of our clients. Our clients were thrilled with Jude’s dedication and care as well as her intimate knowledge of mindfulness. Our clients reported feeling calmer in themselves, reported higher levels of understanding as to what triggers their pain and fatiguing conditions, and as a result, how to better self-manage their conditions. From an organisational point of view we have also found clients who have participated in this program display greater levels of gratitude for what is good in their lives as well. We have undertaken this program via ‘zoom’ sessions and Jude’s organisation has made this so easy for everyone. Even participants with low IT literacy have managed it. We would definitely recommend this program for anyone especially for organisations who work with vulnerable clients. We are now hoping to be able to schedule the program into a staff only course as staff who constantly work with clients with complex needs also need the space to explore the tenants of mindfulness to help them manage the work induced stress they face in a daily basis. - Rebecca Davey, CEO
The Mindfulness Course was well organised and thoughtfully put together and presented by Jude King. The Course was a comprehensive taste of the depth and breadth of mindfulness studies – there was lots of practice, theories and insights. The eight-week Course was well-paced and had a clear structure for each of the two-hour weekly sessions and the Course overall. The resources provided in the form of weekly Handouts and practice meditations were excellent. I was committed to attend all 8 Mindfulness sessions and to practice daily and weekly as required. As a result of this regular practice as the Course progressed I felt calmer, more in the moment, productive and less engaged with the trivia of daily life. I was aware of these changes and pleased with the personal benefits I have gained. I experienced Jude King to be a gentle, focussed and intelligent presenter with the ability to effectively engage the participants.
